Affect and effect


Affect

Meaning: to influence
Affect is a verb
Examples:
  • Your decision will not affect me.
  • The season affects the flowers and fruits.
  • Do not allow this incident to affect your work
Effect

Meaning: result, bring out
Effect is used both as a noun and a verb.
Examples:
  • This drug has adverse side effects. Noun
  • When the company effected layoff, employee were given larger pay. Verb
  • The prescribed medicine had immediate effect on the pain.
Tips

Effect
Use effect if one these words is used just before the word: on, into, take, the any, an, or and
Use effect when you are telling about the result

Affect
Use affect if you are describing facial expressions.
Use affect when you are describe someone or something.

What is parallelism?

Parallelism is the usage of similar grammatical construction to express similar content and function. This enables the reader to recognize the similarity or comparison made between the item. All items, phrases, or clauses used in a sentence should be parallel.

Example 1

Incorrect: The doctor recommended a daily intake of 10mg protein, exercising and changing the diet plan.

Correct: The doctor recommended a daily intake of 10 mg protein,exercise, and a change in diet plan.

Example 2

Incorrect: We spoke to the Dutch, the French, Spanish and Italian citizens.

Correct: We spoke to the Dutch, the French, the Spanish, and the Italian citizens.

Correct: We spoke to the Dutch, French, Spanish, and Italian citizens.
