Release notes is the document distributed along with the product that explains about the product. A release notes includes the recent changes, enhancements, hotfixes, bug fixes, known issues etc. for products that are already in use, release note is a supplementary document that provides information about the enhancement of the product and the bugs that are fixed.
Contents of a Release Notes
• Document Name-This includes Product Name, Release Number, Version Number, and Release Date.
• Product Overview-This gives the overview of the product.
• Scope of the document-A short description of what is the purpose the document, what are the new features and enhancements in the product and the bugs that are fixed.
• Fixed Issues
Issue-Description of the bug.
Steps to reproduce-Steps fallowed to reproduce the bug.
Fix-Modification made to fix the bug.
• Pending Issues
Issue-Description of the bug.
Steps to reproduce-Steps fallowed to reproduce the bug.
Action-When the issue will be addressed and any workarounds for the issue.
• New Features-New features in the current release.
• Change-Impact-Change in functionality due to enhancement, bug fix etc.
• Caveats-anti-piracy or any other warning.
• Deployment Instructions-Instructions to deploy the application.
• Related information-Any information related the application.
